I feel the need to address something here. This may be a rant but oh well here goes.
The typical image of a MetCon workout is comparable to that of a group of hard bodied athletes jumping, squatting and doing pull ups at full speed... and on occasion.... throwing up as the workout comes to a close. First of all, God bless those who give their all. Second, God bless those who do their best no matter what it looks like.
Above all, I'm a fan of achievement, regardless of the path. I've developed my fandom strictly based on the personal quest towards finding the definition of "results" and what this definition really means to each person, individually. On a personal level, MetCon workouts are short and infinitely scalable. I've witnessed incredible gains in the shortest amount of time on a MetCon program. On a professional level, I've aided clients in reducing stress of the joints, while annihilating body fat (up to 6% in 2 months). Clients are consistently blown away upon seeing these specific results, in just 30 minutes per day. The biggest difference... the skills they gain.
Most programs fail miserably at increasing athletic skill, balance or coordination on an athletic level whatsoever. Why is it important to highlight this? Because we're all athletes to some degree; everyone from you, me and even grandma need athletic skills. In order to perform life's basic tasks we must be able to move well and be strong. MetCon style of training comes in handy by teaching the average person to be strong and perform work efficiently. Oftentimes, the world of pop fitness neglects to include this important part of training.

I constantly come across individuals with a very misunderstood perception of metabolic conditioning and it's unfortunate. I find that many people harbor negative feelings towards programs such as Crossfit and Bootcamp, which are popularized MetCon programs. Usually the problem in these cases is the perception that program is dangerous. In reality most programs in themselves aren't dangerous, it's the coaching. Poor coaching can ruin even the best exercise program. Another misconception is that these programs are designed for elite athletes. There is an intimidation factor that deters a lot of beginners from trying these programs. The truth is that, if coached properly all athletes can participate.Contrary to popular belief, these programs ARE made for everyone. You, me and even grandma can all see great health benefits that relate to our daily lives.
How does it work? Maybe grandma isn't clean n jerking 115 kilo's, but she is able to shoulder press a few pounds. This will certainly show an increase in bone density, as well as lower her blood pressure, and reduce her risk of injury from participating at her respective level of experience. Also, the circuit style work combined with weight training, prepares her for life's simple tasks. MetCon workouts simply add a cardio benefit to functional weight training. Everyone, including grandma and grandpa, can SEE a benefit and the RESULT of this training program. The majority of traditional weight lifting programs do not include a sufficient amount of conditioning for the average person. Outside of the gym, most of us work in our yards, move furniture, and change tires. These activities alone exert more energy and require more coordination than the run of the mill bodybuilding programs require. There are numerous programs you can achieve fantastic results from, however don't be intimidated. Put yourself out there no matter what your current skill level is, however, know that finding a great coach is the key to results.
To ensure variety in your routine, try different sports such as paddle boarding, rock climbing, biking and hiking. Sports are great workouts which are fun and help keep you fitter longer. Remember, great results don't have to be exclusive to extremely gifted athletes. God bless and good luck.
