I posted the exercise myth a while back ago. I couldn't have restated the evident correlation between diet and weight loss any better than that article did. Just to think, it took an experienced fitness coach years to realize how much of a lynch pin nutrition is in his clients' weight loss and performance results. It's not uncommon for many to go years without keeping a diet log or reading a single piece of updated nutritional information and still feel like their diet is 'fine.'
How about you, is your diet 'fine'?
I've trained doctors, nurses and dietitians that eat like crap. It's sad but true. None of us are truly immune to slipping off track simply because of the fact that we are human. Your nutritional knowledge base does not necessarily correlate with your ability to make disciplined decisions. Let me share something that I learned in college biology. Did you know that human beings are the only species on earth to intentionally hurt itself? It's crazy to think about but it's true. No other wild animal takes drugs, commits suicide or eats until obese without aid. Only us! If you are serious about your health, here's an exercise to make sure you are still on track:
THE SCENARIO:
You're the CFO of a giant corporation called YOU Inc. The success and failure of the company falls on your shoulders. The company happens to be your body and the currency is calories. Like other company's, your job depends on the yearly profit margin YOU Inc. makes and the stockholders hate losing money. The week is coming to a close and the board is waiting to hear the numbers.
Can you answer these few, simple questions?
Do you know specifically how many 'good' calories are you consuming? Example: anything perishable, non-fortified and nutrient rich
Do you know specifically know how much of your diet (per day/per week) consists in calories of processed food? Example: breads, pastas, cereals, canned goods, lunch meats, chips...
How many beverage ounces consisted of JUST water? Not including flavoring products/powders
